Jung-Tsung Shen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical & Systems Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, affiliated with the McKelvey School of Engineering. He leads a research group focused on quantum nano-photonics, metamaterials, and plasmonics. His work bridges theoretical physics and applied engineering, with applications in quantum communication, computation, and biomedical imaging.
Education: PhD in Physics from MIT (2003), specializing in theoretical and computational studies of electron-hole plasma and metamaterials. Postdoctoral research at Stanford University’s Ginzton Laboratory (2003–200X) explored photon transport in nanostructures and thermal energy systems.
Research interests emphasize exploiting quantum phenomena at subwavelength scales for next-generation technologies. Recent work includes DARPA-funded quantum photonic lasers for fog-penetrating communication and Chan Zuckerberg Initiative grants for advanced biomedical imaging techniques.
