Professor Junaid Arshad is the Head of the Department of Computer Science at Birmingham City University. He is a leading expert in cybersecurity, machine learning, and trustworthy AI, with a focus on addressing vulnerabilities across emerging computing paradigms such as IoT, cloud systems, and blockchains.
Research Interests: Junaid investigates cybersecurity challenges for diverse technologies, including Grid and Cloud computing, IoT, and blockchain systems. His work applies machine learning and AI to develop resilient models against cyber-attacks and explores trustworthy AI frameworks to enhance system security.
Scientific Awards:
- Recognized in the World's Top 2% Computer Science Researchers (2022, 2023) by Stanford University
- Ranked in the World's Top 0.5% Computer Science Researchers (ScholarGPS, 2025)

Projects and Grants: Junaid leads the West Midlands Health Tech Accelerator (WMHTIA) project, collaborating with 20+ SMEs in healthcare. He has contributed to £20M+ in externally funded research and developed the CyMonD system for IoT cybersecurity monitoring.
Labs & Teams: He leads the Birmingham City University team for the Innovate UK & WMCA-funded WMHTIA project, supporting Healthtech SMEs in technology roadmap development.
