Jun Xia is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Director of Graduate Studies at the University at Buffalo's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He holds an adjunct appointment in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. His research focuses on biomedical imaging technologies, including photoacoustic tomography, wearable sensors, and multimodal imaging systems for clinical applications such as wound monitoring, breast cancer diagnostics, and vascular analysis. Xia leads the Cell, Gene and Tissue Engineering Center, emphasizing interdisciplinary innovation in healthcare technology. His work integrates deep learning, nanomedicine, and engineering principles to develop practical diagnostic tools like the Dual-scan Mammoscope and mmSkin systems.
Key research interests include optimizing photoacoustic imaging resolution, developing cost-effective medical devices, and advancing non-invasive diagnostics through AI-driven approaches.
