Julin Lee

Julin Lee is a Lecturer in Historical Musicology and Research Associate at the Institute of Musicology, Munich University of Music and Performing Arts (HMTM), where she has been active since October 2021. She is currently completing her dissertation on television series music. Her interdisciplinary background includes studies in chemical engineering (University of Cambridge) and musicology (LMU Munich).

Her research explores intersections across three domains:

• Music in audiovisual media: Analysis of film and television soundtracks
• Organology: Cultural history of instruments like the Mixturtrautonium
• 20th/21st-century music history: Focus on technology's impact on composition

Specific projects include studies of Alfred Hitchcock's 'The Birds,' synthesizers in 'Blade Runner,' and Pierre Boulez's piano works.

Awards and recognitions include:

• Frederick R. Selch Award (2021) for research on synthesizers in film
• TONKUNST Prize (2021) for analysis of avant-garde piano music

Prior affiliations include research roles at Munich's Deutsches Museum (2017-2021), where she received grants for projects blending musicology with instrument technology.
