Simon Tönies

Simon Tönies is a Lecturer at the Institute of Musicology and Music Education at Justus Liebig University Giessen. He earned his doctorate in 2021 from the Universities of Frankfurt and Nice with a thesis on Pierre Boulez's experimental early works. He teaches courses in social history, music theory/aesthetics, and music criticism, while also holding teaching positions at the Universities of Frankfurt, Dortmund, and Marburg.

His artistic research and courses on topics such as "Music in the Context of Race and Gender" and "Adorno's Musical Thought" demonstrate interdisciplinary engagement. He has examined media-theoretical and philosophical aspects of AI-generated art and analyzed post-war avant-garde radicalism.
