Julieta Fernández is an Associate Professor in the Spanish & Portuguese Department at the University of Arizona, with affiliations in the Second Language Acquisition and Teaching (SLAT) Ph.D. program and the Technology Enhanced Language Learning (TELL) cluster. She holds a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from Penn State University, an MA in TESL from the University of Illinois, and a BA in Spanish-English Translation from IES en Lenguas Vivas in Argentina. Her research focuses on second language pragmatics, study abroad contexts, corpus linguistics, and pedagogical applications of qualitative and corpus-based methods. She directs the Tucson Applied Linguistics Lab, supported by a Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) Grant, and collaborates on initiatives like the linguistically responsive TA training model funded by a CUES grant.
Her educational background includes advanced degrees in applied linguistics and translation, emphasizing both theoretical and practical dimensions of language acquisition.
