Ana Maria Carvalho

Dr. Ana Maria Carvalho is a Professor of Portuguese and Spanish Linguistics at the University of Arizona, affiliated with the Second Language Acquisition and Teaching (SLAT) Program and Linguistics. She directs the Portuguese Language Program and holds a courtesy appointment in Linguistics. Her research focuses on sociolinguistics, language contact, and bilingualism, particularly examining parallel variable grammars in borderland language contact scenarios. She also explores language attitudes, code-switching, and corpus-based methods in dialect acquisition.
