Professor Pietsch's research interests span migration politics, political behavior, and the intersection of race and ethnicity in political systems. Her work particularly focuses on immigration, race and ethnic politics in Australia and the Asia Pacific region, with specialist interests in migration and diversity, social cohesion, voting and electoral behaviors, citizenship, refugees, racism, and discrimination. Her recent book manuscript with Cambridge University Press, 'Lost Opportunities: Temporary Migrants across the Asia Pacific,' highlights her expertise in temporary migration patterns.
Her recent publications reveal a strong focus on migration studies, political behavior, and public policy. There's a clear trajectory in her work examining how migration patterns, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, intersect with political systems and social cohesion. Her research increasingly incorporates sophisticated demographic methods for estimating migration flows, while maintaining a strong connection to policy implications. The UN Population Division has requested parts of her research for the World Population Prospects, underscoring the international significance of her work.
