معرفی
Professor Julien Vermot is a faculty member in the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London's Faculty of Engineering. His research focuses on biomechanical signaling and tissue morphogenesis, particularly the role of mechanical forces during embryonic development and regeneration.
Education: PhD in Developmental Biology from the University of Strasbourg (2003). Postdoctoral training included positions at the Stowers Institute for Biomedical Research and the California Institute of Technology. Previously served as Research Director at INSERM, France, before joining Imperial in 2019.
Research Interests: Integrates biomechanics with cell signaling to understand morphogenetic processes. Key areas include embryonic development mechanics, regenerative biology, and the interplay between genetic and mechanical factors in tissue formation. Utilizes novel experimental tools to study mechanical stresses in living systems.
Awards: Recognized with prestigious grants like the HFSP Career Development Award and ERC Consolidator Grant. Became an EMBO Member in 2023, highlighting peer recognition of his contributions to developmental biology.
Grants & Advising: Secured major funding through ERC programs. Advises students in biomechanics and signaling research. Leads the Biomechanics and Signaling Lab at Imperial, fostering interdisciplinary approaches to developmental biology challenges.
Labs/Teams: Directs the biomechanics and signaling laboratory, which develops innovative techniques to quantify mechanical forces in living tissues, bridging engineering and biological research.
