Julien BAILLEUL is an Associate Professor in Sedimentary Geology and Basin Analysis at the University of Picardy Jules Verne, based at the Beauvais Campus. He is affiliated with the B2R research unit (Bassins-Réservoirs-Ressources) and holds a PhD in Dynamics of Sedimentary Environments. His research focuses on the structural and sedimentological development of sedimentary basins in active tectonic settings, particularly in subduction zones and convergent margins. Key interests include tectono-sedimentary relationships, seismic stratigraphy, and basin evolution in regions like New Zealand's Hikurangi Margin and the Aegean Sea's North Evia Gulf Rift System.
He teaches advanced courses in Energy Resources within the Geology and Environment engineering program, emphasizing basin analysis and tectonic influences on sedimentation. Collaborations include institutions like Schlumberger, GNS (New Zealand), IFPEN, and TOTAL, alongside academic partners such as the University of Leeds and the University of Western Australia. His fieldwork and analytical work integrate high-resolution seismic data, UAV-based coastal modeling, and taphonomic methods for skeletal particles.
Recent research highlights active deformation studies in the North Anatolian Fault prolongation and subduction margin dynamics, with a focus on mass-transport deposits, turbidite systems, and fluid migration pathways. Over 50 publications span topics including Miocene carbonate systems, Pliocene-Quaternary tectonics, and the interplay between seismic deformation and sedimentary architecture.
