Julie Tolentino is a Filipino-Salvadoran interdisciplinary artist and Professor at the California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts), School of Art. She is also a Visiting Critic at the University of Pennsylvania's Stuart Weitzman School of Design (2022) and has held roles such as Scholar-in-Residence at NYU Steinhardt (2021–2022) and Alma Hawkins Chair at UCLA (Winter 2022). Tolentino holds an MFA in Experimental Choreography from UC Riverside, where she was a Dean’s Distinguished Fellow.
Research & Practice: Her work spans durational performance, installation, scent art, and text-based projects, addressing themes of queer identity, HIV/AIDS activism, and intersectional social justice. Notable collaborations include Visual AIDS Duets Book series and Movements in Blue. She co-founded the Clit Club (1990–2002) and currently serves as Senior Editor for TDR-The Drama Review.
