Julie Ober Allen is an Assistant Professor of Health Promotion and Health Equity in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Education. Her research focuses on how chronic stressors rooted in social inequities—including ageism, discrimination, and race/gender ideologies—affect behavior, biology, and health outcomes in older U.S. adults, particularly for diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancers, and multimorbidity.
Education:
- MPH, PhD in Public Health (University of Michigan School of Public Health)
- Postdoctoral Fellowship (University of Michigan Institute for Social Research)
Her work aims to inform community and policy-level interventions to reduce health disparities. She leads the Stress and Health Disparities Lab and has contributed to media discussions (e.g., CBS Sunday Morning, 2022) on ageism. Key research themes include ageism measurement, HPA-axis dysregulation, and biobehavioral pathways of health inequities.
