Dr. Julie Magarian is a Professor of Microbiology and Immunology and Professor of Immunology in Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College, with ongoing research since 2016. Her work bridges immunology and microbiology, focusing on antigen presentation, inflammasome signaling, and immune responses to cell death.
- Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (1997)
- B.S., American University of Beirut (1986)
Her research explores:
- Mechanisms of antigen cross-presentation by dendritic cells
- Inflammasome activation in response to microbial viability
- T cell differentiation regulated by toll-like and nod-like receptors
- Role of cell death in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases
- Gut homeostasis and mucosal immune responses
Recent publications highlight her leadership in inflammasome biology, noncanonical antigen presentation, and microbial viability detection. Grants from NIAID, Kenneth Rainin Foundation, and BSF support her work on IBD, tumor immunity, and vaccine development. She maintains collaborations with industry partners like Avara Pharmaceutical Services.
