Julie M. Hasenwinkel is Associate Provost for Academic Programs at Syracuse University, affiliated with the College of Engineering and Computer Science. She holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University, an MS in Bioengineering from Clemson University, and a BSE in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University.
- PhD, Biomedical Engineering, Northwestern University
- MS, Bioengineering, Clemson University
- BSE, Biomedical Engineering, Duke University
Her research initially focused on translational polymeric biomaterials for orthopedic and nerve regeneration applications, including acrylic bone cements, nanoparticle drug delivery systems, and micropatterned hydrogels. Since 2012, she has transitioned to engineering education, investigating the impact of faculty development in pedagogy and advising practices on student persistence and retention in Engineering and Computer Science programs. She has also developed cohort-based scholarship programs to support student success.
Her scientific awards include the Meredith Professor for Teaching Excellence (2022), ELATE Fellowship (2013-14), and the Coulter Early Career Award (2007-11). She contributes to cutting-edge research in biomaterials, 3D printing, and biomedical imaging, with recent publications (2019-2021) spanning hydrogel structures, spinal cord injury, and collagen-modified agarose.
