Dr. Julie Loisel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Nevada, Reno, part of the College of Science – The Mackay School of Earth Sciences and Engineering. She specializes in peatland ecosystems, carbon cycling, and paleoenvironmental reconstructions using multi-proxy approaches.
Education includes a Ph.D. in Earth and Environmental Sciences from Lehigh University (2012), M.S. in Physical Geography from University of Quebec in Montreal (2008), and B.S. in Physical Geography from the same institution (2006).
Her research focuses on long-term terrestrial ecosystem responses to global change, particularly carbon sequestration in peatlands worldwide. Field expeditions span Arctic Canada, Alaska, Antarctic Peninsula, Patagonia, and tropical regions, funded by NSF, National Geographic Society, and DoD's Climate Science Center.
Recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on tropical and high-latitude peatlands, carbon dynamics under climate change, and novel methodologies for ecosystem assessment using isotopic and modeling approaches. Research consistently addresses global change impacts on carbon storage across diverse ecosystems.
