Julie Liss is a Senior Associate Dean and Professor at Arizona State University (ASU), holding affiliations in the College of Health Solutions, School of Life Sciences, and Neuroscience (PhD) program. Her research focuses on speech production/perception in dysarthria, neurological impacts on communication, and neurorehabilitation solutions using AI. With 30+ years as an NIH-funded Principal Investigator, her work bridges clinical practice and technology through interdisciplinary collaborations.
Education: B.A. Psychology/Communication Disorders (University of Wisconsin-Madison, 1984), M.A. Speech Pathology (University of Denver, 1986), Ph.D. Normal Aspects of Speech and Hearing (University of Wisconsin-Madison, 1989).
Research emphasizes cognitive/social neuroscience, sensorimotor control, and biomarker development for neurodegenerative diseases. Editor-in-Chief Emeritus of the Journal of Speech, Language and Hearing Research and current Chair of ASHA Journals' Board. Active in professional associations including the Acoustical Society of America.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on neural bases of communication disorders, neuromotor speech disorders, and graduate research supervision.
