Julie Lattaud is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Science at Stockholm University, specializing in carbon biogeochemistry and paleoclimate research. With a background in geology and organic geochemistry, she leads research on sensitive climate regions including the Arctic and tropical wetlands.
Her research focuses on understanding carbon cycling processes through biomarker analysis, with particular emphasis on methane production and oxidation in Arctic environments, carbon dynamics in tropical wetlands like the Okavango Delta, and the effects of glacier melt in Greenlandic fjords. She employs advanced molecular techniques to reconstruct past environmental conditions and understand current climate change impacts.
Dr. Lattaud's work reveals significant patterns in carbon biogeochemistry across diverse environments, showing how molecular proxies can track environmental changes from the Arctic to tropical regions. Her recent publications demonstrate expertise in lipid biomarkers, isotope geochemistry, and paleoenvironmental reconstruction across multiple temporal and spatial scales.
Scientific Awards:
- SIAM talent grant awarded in June 2022
- Ambizione Grant for new project starting summer 2023
- Career seed grant from ETHZ
- BioArt and Design Award for Microbiocene project
She actively mentors students including PhD candidate Lukas Bigler and Master's student Joshua Hellman, while teaching courses in environmental biogeochemistry, laboratory methods, and field studies. Her current research projects include investigating methane cycling in the Canadian Arctic, tracking glacier melt effects in Greenlandic fjords, and studying carbon cycling in the Okavango Delta.
