Julie L Cidell is a Professor in the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She holds affiliate roles in the Center for the Study of Global Gender Equity, European Union Center, Center for Social & Behavioral Science, and Center for Global Studies. Her work focuses on critical perspectives on transportation geography, urban infrastructure, and sustainability.
Education: Ph.D., M.A. (University of Minnesota); B.A. (University of Chicago). Teaching includes courses on urban geography, transportation sustainability, and geospatial technologies.
Research Interests: Transportation systems, spatial analysis, urban sustainability, political ecology of infrastructure, and equity in mobility. Recent work explores freight mobility justice, artist-in-residence programs in transportation, and river geomorphology in inland ports.
Awards: Beckman Fellow (2012-13), Nystrom Award finalist (AAG). Grants include EPA-funded studies on freight electrification and NSF projects on green building policy.
Grants & Collaborations: Active projects on electrification equity, arts-mitigated infrastructure, and green building conventions. Collaborates across disciplines and international institutions.
