Julie Kissick is a Senior Lecturer in Radio at the Faculty of Business and Creative Industries, University of South Wales (USW), and a member of the Creative Industries Research and Innovation Group. She has been a permanent academic staff member since 2009, bringing extensive industry experience from senior roles at ITV and BBC in journalism, production, and editorial management.
Her educational background includes a BA (Hons) in English from Swansea University, a Postgraduate Certificate in Strategic Digital Marketing, and professional training from the National Council for Training of Journalists.
Julie's research focuses on critical issues in modern media, including public trust in broadcasting, the impact of BBC compliance changes, sports journalism and gender dynamics, the decline of local newspapers, social media’s transformation of journalistic workflows, personal branding, and how male cancer survivors communicate their experiences. Her work contributes to broader discussions on media ethics, representation, and digital transformation.
