Dr. Julie Kang is an Associate Professor of Therapeutic Radiology at Yale School of Medicine and a board-certified radiation oncologist specializing in the treatment of head and neck, prostate, bladder, and skin cancers. She is affiliated with Yale Cancer Center and practices at the Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center at Trumbull. Dr. Kang previously worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center before joining Yale.
Dr. Kang received her BS from Yale University (2002), followed by a PhD (2008) and MD (2010) from the University of Southern California. She completed her radiation oncology residency at UCLA (2015).
Her research focuses on optimizing cancer treatment outcomes while minimizing toxicity, with particular emphasis on HPV-associated oropharyngeal cancer, laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancers, and thyroid cancer. Dr. Kang has published over 80 papers with more than 1,030 citations, with recent work exploring radiation dose de-escalation strategies, comparative effectiveness of different radiation techniques, and applications of artificial intelligence in oncology.
Dr. Kang's publication trends show a strong focus on head and neck oncology, particularly HPV-related cancers.
