Julie Iromuanya is an Assistant Professor in the Program in Creative Writing at the University of Chicago. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (2010) and has been recognized as a Presidential Fellow and award-winning teacher during her graduate studies.

Her research and creative work focus on the African Diaspora, global blackness, and African immigrant experiences in the United States, particularly within the context of fiction writing, creative writing pedagogy, and intersectional issues of race, economics, gender, and citizenship. Her scholarship explores postcolonial critique, Neo-Slave Narratives, and transnational dimensions of black identity.
Julie’s publications have earned finalist positions for major literary awards, including the PEN/Faulkner Award and the National Book Critics Circle John Leonard Prize. She has also received numerous prestigious fellowships and residencies, such as the Kimbilio Fellowship and MacDowell Colony residency.
