Dr Julie Hendry serves as Associate Professor in Radiotherapy and Oncology and Professional Lead/Section Head for Radiotherapy & Oncology at City St George's, University of London. She also holds the leadership position of Associate Dean for Student Outcomes across the university. With a clinical background spanning decades as a therapeutic radiographer, Dr Hendry transitioned into education in 2009 and has since established herself as an influential educator and leader in medical radiation sciences.
Her educational journey includes a Doctor of Education (2022), Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education with Commendation (2011), and a Masters in Oncology Practice with Commendation from Kingston University (2009). She also holds a BSc in Radiotherapy Practice (1993) and the Diploma of the College of Radiographers (Therapy) (1986).
Dr Hendry's research focuses on compassionate care in radiography, patient-centered approaches in radiotherapy, and educational methodologies for healthcare professionals. Her work explores how caring behaviors manifest in clinical practice and how these can be effectively taught to students. She has investigated the information needs of women receiving adjuvant radiotherapy and examined the support requirements of adolescent cancer survivors. Her research often bridges clinical practice with educational theory to improve both patient outcomes and professional development.
Her publication record demonstrates a consistent focus on improving radiography education and practice. She has examined topics ranging from values-based practice in radiography to advanced radiotherapy techniques that minimize cardiac exposure in breast cancer treatment. Her recent work addresses the challenges of delivering compassionate care during the COVID-19 pandemic and developing person-centered approaches in radiotherapy.
