Julie Hakim

Dr. Julie Hakim is an Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She practices at Texas Children’s Hospital as a pediatric gynecologist clinician-scientist, leading the Laboratory for Regenerative Tissue Repair. Her work bridges clinical care, scientific research, and medical device innovation to address unmet needs in women's and girls' health.

Dr. Hakim’s research focuses on regenerative medicine and anti-fibrotic therapies for vaginal wound healing, emphasizing the roles of mechanical forces, extracellular matrix, and inflammation. Her lab develops novel medical devices like customized vaginal stents using 3D printing and biomechanical modeling. She also investigates obesity-related gynecologic complications and leads STEM education initiatives for underserved populations.

Her recent publications highlight innovations in vaginal tissue engineering, correlations between obesity and gynecologic pathologies, and clinical evaluations of pediatric gynecologic care practices. These works demonstrate her commitment to translational research and clinical application.
