Julie Graziane

Dr. Julie Graziane is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Penn State College of Medicine, where she serves as Assistant Program Director for the Psychiatry Residency program. She works within the Division of Adult Inpatient Services at the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute and maintains affiliation with the Penn State Neuroscience Institute.

Dr. Graziane earned her medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry in 2009. She completed her Psychiatry residency at Butler Hospital in Rhode Island in 2013, followed by a Geriatric Psychiatry fellowship at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital in 2014.

Her research focuses on the intersection of mental health and civic engagement, particularly examining voting rights and accessibility for psychiatric patients. She has published extensively on health equity issues in psychiatric care, with her work highlighting barriers faced by psychiatric inpatients in exercising their voting rights and developing interventions to promote health equity through voter support activities. Her research demonstrates how civic participation can be integrated into mental health treatment frameworks.

Dr. Graziane has received the Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching in both 2020 and 2024, recognizing her outstanding contributions to medical education. Her publications appear in journals including Academic Psychiatry, Community Mental Health Journal, and Psychiatric Services.

As Assistant Program Director for the Psychiatry Residency, Dr. Graziane plays a key role in mentoring future psychiatrists and shaping curriculum development. Her commitment to teaching excellence has been formally recognized through multiple awards, and she has contributed to neuroscience education through her work on standardized core competencies for neuroscience trainees.

Dr. Graziane maintains active clinical practice specializing in Adult Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry, providing comprehensive psychiatric care while integrating her research insights on patient autonomy and civic engagement into her clinical approach.
