Julie Friesen is a Part-time Assistant Professor at The New School, teaching Public Management within the Schools of Public Engagement. She concurrently serves as Deputy Commissioner of Administration at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene since 2011, managing large teams and budgets to advance public health initiatives. Her career spans senior roles in NYC government, including the Mayor’s Office of Contracts and the Department for the Aging, alongside prior policy work in Canada focused on gender equity.
