Dr. Julie Ekstrum is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at Creighton University’s School of Pharmacy and Health Professions. She serves as Director of the Institute for Latin America Concern (ILAC) within the Physical Therapy program. Her academic credentials include PT (Physical Therapist), DPT (Doctor of Physical Therapy), and CCS (Clinical Specialist).
Her research focuses on functional outcomes in clinical populations, including post-surgical rehabilitation, geriatric care, and global health initiatives. Key areas include cardiovascular-pulmonary rehabilitation, clinical reasoning in physical therapy education, and addressing health disparities through community-based interventions. She has led studies on breast cancer survivorship, West Nile virus rehabilitation, and thoracic mobility in older adults.
