Dr. Julie Davies is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Queensland's Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences. Her work focuses on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), microbiome-host interactions, and the role of innate immunity in gastrointestinal disorders. She is actively involved in translational research, investigating mechanisms linking inflammation to colorectal cancer and developing novel therapies targeting gut microbiota. Dr. Davies holds current research grants including 'Harnessing microbial immunomodulatory function to improve treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases' (2024-2027) and 'Drugs from Bugs: Developing New IBD Drugs from Gut Bacteria-Derived Bioactives' (2021-2025).
Her research highlights include discovering how microbial signatures influence IBD pathogenesis and demonstrating that TLR4 signaling drives intestinal tumorigenesis. She collaborates on studies linking depression management in IBD patients to microbiome changes, and explores how E-selectin inhibition enhances cancer treatment efficacy. Dr. Davies is available for student supervision and actively publishes in top journals like Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and Molecular Biology of the Cell.
