Julie Ann Welkowitz serves as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Counseling, Human Development and Family Science within the College of Education and Social Services at the University of Vermont, where she acts as Field Placement Coordinator and oversees the Clinical Mental Health Counseling specialization alongside internship and practicum programs.
Her research centers on Clinical Psychology and Systems Change, with specialized focus on School Mental Health interventions, Narrative Practices for therapeutic settings, Clinical Supervision methodologies, and Consultation frameworks for educational systems. Dr. Welkowitz develops models to support youth with emotional and behavioral challenges in schools while advocating for disadvantaged student populations through strength-based systems change initiatives.
She coordinates federal grant projects through UVM's Center on Disability and Community Inclusion to enhance school mental health capacity, teaches core courses including Diagnosis in Counseling and Addictions Counseling, and directs field placement operations across diverse clinical settings.
Dr. Welkowitz maintains active involvement with the Vermont Center on Narrative Practices for systems-level transformation.
