Dr Julianna Challenor serves as a Senior Lecturer and Programme Director for the Doctorate in Counselling Psychology (DPsych) at City St George's, University of London, where she has been affiliated with the Psychology Department since 2012. A registered practitioner psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), she brings extensive clinical experience from NHS primary care, charitable organizations, university settings, and private practice, including specialized training in Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) through the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families.
Her academic credentials include:
- Doctorate in Counselling Psychology from City, University of London (2008-2012)
- Graduate Diploma in Psychology from the University of West London (formerly Thames Valley University)
- BA(Hons) in Politics and International Relations from the University of Reading
Prior to her psychology career, she worked in television production for many years. Her research centers on qualitative methodologies in counselling psychology, with expertise in discourse analysis, thematic analysis, and Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), alongside case study methodology for psychotherapy practice. She has published clinical case studies and research in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters.
Dr Challenor has supervised doctoral research students and contributed to both the DPsych and BSc Psychology programmes. She previously held the role of Director of Studies (Research) for the Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy by Professional Studies at Metanoia Institute from October 2019 to September 2021.
