Juliana Rinaldi-Semione serves as a Research Fellow in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham and holds the position of Rights Lab Visiting Fellow in Slavery-Free Futures and Freedoms. She pioneered Slavery-Free Mars in 2022 to eliminate slavery from space exploration and future colonies, while researching freedom definitions through survivor perspectives.
Her academic credentials include:
- MA in Global Ethics and Human Values from King's College London
- PhD in Politics and Contemporary History from the University of Nottingham
Her research integrates modern slavery prevention with emerging domains like space exploration, emphasizing survivor-led methodologies. She developed the Peer Researcher Development Programme Curriculum to empower survivors as co-researchers and created the Sustainable Freedom Support Structure™ for community-based survivor support systems.
Juliana actively collaborates with anti-trafficking entities including the Salvation Army UKI’s Anti-Trafficking & Modern Slavery Unit and the Office of the Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner, authoring the influential report 'Preparing for Impact' on survivor support frameworks. She currently contributes impact expertise to the Midlands Innovation TALENT project.
She maintains affiliations with the University of Nottingham's Rights Lab and serves on California's Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force.
