Juliana M. Ruzante

Juliana M. Ruzante is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Health at the School of Public Health, San Diego State University, and a research public health analyst at RTI International’s Center for Health and Environmental Modeling with over 20 years of expertise in food safety and foodborne disease epidemiology.

Her educational background includes:

• DVM in Veterinary Medicine from the University of São Paulo (2000)
• MS in Preventive Veterinary Medicine from the University of California, Davis (2007)
• PhD in Comparative Pathology from the University of California, Davis (2007)

Dr. Ruzante's research focuses on food safety systems, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) data coordination, and evidence-based public health policy. She develops strategic partnerships to expand food safety and AMR initiatives, directs USDA/APHIS contracts for veterinary AMR data infrastructure with Iowa State University, and leads FDA projects on food allergy prevalence and DEIA (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility) integration in chemical exposure research. Her work leverages national foodborne surveillance data to inform farm-to-fork prevention strategies and incorporates DEIA principles into public health methodology.

She directs multiple high-impact projects including the USDA/APHIS-funded AMR data coordinating center in Veterinary Medicine and FDA initiatives analyzing food allergy severity and DEIA applications. Her technical leadership spans project management, data analysis, and cross-organizational collaboration with federal agencies and international bodies.

Dr. Ruzante actively collaborates through RTI International’s Center for Health and Environmental Modeling and maintains her affiliate membership with the National Institute of Antimicrobial Resistance Research and Education (NIAMRRE), engaging with FAO, WHO, and National Academies committees.
