Juliana Lux is a Research Associate and doctoral candidate at the Institute for Empirical Cultural Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences and Philosophy, Philipps University of Marburg, where she has been working since August 2023. Her research explores the nexus between water and (post-)industrialities, particularly how industrial water reveals interconnections within and beyond industrial legacies amid the global climate crisis.

Her research interests include industrial water, (post-)industrialities, the Ruhr region, intersectional critical diversity studies, and political anthropology. These themes are pursued through ethnographic and cultural studies methodologies, with a strong emphasis on socio-spatial justice and decolonial perspectives. Her work contributes to broader interdisciplinary conversations on environmental humanities and cultural memory.
Juliana’s recent publications and presentations reflect her engagement with colonial continuities in public perception, bias-motivated crimes in Bremen, and pedagogical innovations in collaborative learning. She has contributed to the Marburg Water Lab, an interdisciplinary initiative that investigates water from humanistic, social, and cultural perspectives, emphasizing co-creation and public awareness.

She has served as a tutor at the University of Bremen, teaching qualitative methods and research ethics, and currently teaches seminars on fieldwork, research ethics, and spatial theory at Philipps University. She is actively involved in academic governance as a representative of mid-level staff in the institute’s board and the Research and Promotion Committee. Additionally, she mentors students through the ProMotivation mentoring program at the university.
Juliana holds an M.Sc. in Cultural Anthropology: Sociocultural Transformation from Utrecht University (2023) and a B.A. in Cultural Studies and Political Science from the University of Bremen (2021). Her master’s thesis explored discursive spacemaking in the Ruhr Valley, while her bachelor’s focused on recognition and belonging among first-generation university students.
