Juliana Athayde is an Associate Professor of Violin and Orchestral Repertory at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester. She serves as the youngest and first female concertmaster of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra since 2005. Her roles include artistic director of the Society for Chamber Music in Rochester alongside her husband, Erik Behr.
Education:
- Bachelor of Music (B.M.) from University of Michigan, studying under Paul Kantor
- Master of Music (M.M.) and Artist Diploma (A.D.) from Cleveland Institute of Music, under William Preucil
Her research interests focus on orchestral performance practices, violin pedagogy, and bridging classical and jazz traditions. Notable collaborations include performances with Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Vadim Gluzman, and Marin Alsop. She has premiered works like Allen Shawn’s and Roberto Sierra’s violin concertos.
