Julian Wright

Julian Wright is a Professor in the Humanities Department at Northumbria University, previously serving as Head of Humanities (2017–2022) and Deputy Head of Faculty. His research focuses on time studies, European cultural history (especially France), and the experiences of marginalized groups during wartime. He holds a DPhil in Modern History from the University of Oxford (2002) and has held visiting roles at the École des hautes Études en Sciences sociales, Paris.

Key research projects include Time on a Human Scale (2021), examining temporal experiences in 19th–20th century Europe, and studies on WWII-era time experiences under siege or occupation. His work bridges history, literature, and philosophy, with recent attention to intersections between music and historical narratives.
