Dr Julian Stannard is a Reader in English and Creative Writing at the University of Winchester, part of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. He holds a PhD from the University of East Anglia and previously taught at the University of Genoa and the University of Suffolk. His work bridges 20th- and 21st-century poetry, modernism, and transnational literary traditions. Notable achievements include the 2024 Lerici Anglo-Liguria Prize, Italy’s highest honor for English-language poets, and the 2010 Troubadour Prize.
His research focuses on modernist and contemporary poetry, with expertise in Anglo-American-European literary connections. He has published nine poetry collections and monographs on figures like Fleur Adcock and Charles Tomlinson. His creative work appears in TLS, Guardian, and Italian journals like Nuova Corrente. Awards include the Crabbe Memorial Prize and multiple international nominations.
