Julian Kreimer

Julian Kreimer is an Associate Professor of Painting and Art History at the State University of New York at Purchase, affiliated with the School of Art+Design and the School of Humanities. He holds a BA from Princeton University, an MA from Chelsea College of Art and Design (London), and an MFA from Rhode Island School of Design. His work bridges painting, art criticism, and education, focusing on contemporary visual culture and urban landscapes. Exhibitions include TSA LA, Lux Art Institute, and Weeknights Gallery, with solo shows since 2013. Awards include the NYSCA/NYFA Fellowship (2018) and the Doris and Carl Kempner Distinguished Professorship (2020–2022). His research explores the sociopolitical dimensions of art-making, as seen in projects like Cyborgian Swamp Thang (2020) and writings on Nicolás de Jesús (2022). Curatorial efforts include Motion Pictures at the Jacob Burns Film Center and contributions to Art in America. Residencies at Yaddo, MacDowell, and Hotel Pupik reflect his commitment to interdisciplinary creative practice.
