Julian Koellermeier is an Assistant Professor in Computational and Numerical Mathematics at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Science and Engineering. His research focuses on mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of fluid flows, with expertise in model reduction techniques for hyperbolic balance laws and kinetic equations.
Recent work develops novel numerical methods for shallow water moment equations and kinetic models, combining traditional computational techniques with machine learning approaches. Publications demonstrate consistent focus on multi-scale modeling and efficient simulation of complex fluid systems.
Dr. Koellermeier investigates applications ranging from rarefied gases to geophysical flows, employing techniques like projective integration, dynamical low-rank approximation, and neural network-based reduction. His group addresses fundamental challenges in simulating hyperbolic systems with spectral gaps.
