Julian Geiß is a Researcher at the University of Trier's Department of Classical and Provincial Roman Archaeology. He currently serves as a research assistant in the DFG-funded project 'Rituals, Waste, and Collectors: New Approaches to Roman River Finds' under JProf. Dr. Ferdinand Heimerl. His doctoral research focuses on early Imperial timber buildings in Trier, supported by the Evangelisches Studienwerk. Geiß holds a double Master's degree in History and Classical Archaeology from the University of Trier, with a thesis on Roman long-range weapons from Haltern am See. His work integrates field excavation experience with museum curation roles at the Rheinisches Landesmuseum Trier (2017–2021) and certified tour guiding in Trier since 2017.
Research interests include Roman military archaeology, material culture analysis, and urban settlement patterns in the Northwest Provinces. He has participated in excavations across Europe, including the Belginum Archaeological Park and the Greek sanctuary of Pheneos. Geiß has contributed to exhibitions and EU projects like 'ARmob,' applying augmented reality to archaeological communication. His publications address artifact reinterpretation (e.g., bone rulers, balteus fittings) and architectural studies in Trier and Haltern.
Teaching engagements include a 2022 course on Roman cities in Central Europe. Current projects involve compiling bibliographies on Haltern's water tower find and gatehouse research. Geiß actively presents at conferences, discussing topics like arrowhead typology and reconstruction methods for Roman structures.
