Julia Wilson serves as an Associate Professor and Program Coordinator in the Mathematical Sciences Department at the State University of New York at Fredonia, where she has been a faculty member since 2000. She earned tenure in 2007, assumed department chair in 2016, and holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee (1999) with a dissertation titled "Nonuniqueness of Boundaries of CAT(0) Groups," following a BA in Mathematics from UC Santa Cruz (1993).
Her research initially centered on geometric topology and geometric group theory, investigating how algebraic structures of groups interact with metric space geometry through CAT(0) spaces—a generalization of non-positive curvature—where she explored boundary nonuniqueness phenomena. Current interests have expanded to historical connections between mathematics and music, formal geometric systems, and active learning pedagogy, alongside significant engagement in climate change education through community initiatives like the 2016 Solar Chautauqua campaign that spurred over forty residential solar installations.
Dr. Wilson teaches diverse courses including calculus, geometry, history of mathematics, mathematics and music, honors courses, and senior seminar, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to undergraduate education within the mathematical sciences.
