Bakul Sathaye is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the American University of Paris (AUP), where she joined in 2023. She holds a PhD in Mathematics from The Ohio State University (2018), an MSc from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (2010), and a BSc from the University of Pune (2008). Her research focuses on geometric group theory, particularly non-positively curved groups and spaces. Notably, her doctoral work explored obstructions to Riemannian smoothing of locally CAT(0) 4-manifolds. She has held postdoctoral positions at Wake Forest University (2019), Ben Gurion University (2019), and the University of Münster (2020). At AUP, she teaches courses such as Applied Statistics, Mathematics for Life, Linear Algebra, and Calculus for Business and Economics.
Her current research interests include boundary behaviors of nonpositively curved groups and the interplay between different curvature concepts in geometric topology. Sathaye actively contributes to the academic community through teaching and advancing theoretical mathematics, bridging pure and applied mathematical disciplines.
