Professor Julia Williams is a Professor and Research Lead for Paramedic Science at the University of Hertfordshire, where she also serves as Associate Dean of School (Research) in the School of Health and Social Work. She holds an adjunct professorship in Clinical Science at Queensland University of Technology. Her roles include Head of Clinical Evidence at the NHS South East Coast Ambulance Service. She earned a PhD from King’s College London, focusing on health experiences of street homeless individuals.
Research interests span paramedic science, out-of-hospital urgent care, homelessness health impacts, and allied health education. Notable projects include studies on pre-hospital mechanical chest compressions, stroke recognition in ambulance services, and paramedic-nurse collaboration in emergency calls. She leads initiatives such as the ‘Fighting Fatigue in the NHS Ambulance Workforce’ and the ‘Rotating Paramedics Model feasibility study’.
Teaching expertise includes research methodologies, qualitative healthcare research, and evidence-based practice. Awards include Fellowships from the College of Paramedics (FCPara) and FEA. She currently supervises two PhD, one DHRes, and three MSc students. Her work is affiliated with the Centre for Future Societies Research and the Centre for Applied Clinical, Health and Care Research (CACHE).
