Dr. Julia Wdowin is a Research Associate at the Bennett School of Public Policy at the University of Cambridge. Her work bridges welfare economics, economic measurement, and ethical frameworks, with a focus on distributional issues, shadow pricing, and the capability approach. She has contributed to research on valuing non-market assets and aligning private/social values in economic systems.
Her research spans topics such as welfare measurement, shadow prices, and natural capital valuation, often addressing gaps in traditional economic metrics. She has explored the interplay between moral sentiments, the commons, and redefining economic success, particularly in the context of climate investment and post-epidemic recovery paradigms.
At the Bennett School, Julia investigates conceptual and methodological challenges in estimating shadow prices for public goods. Her earlier PhD research at the University of Cambridge applied the capability approach to assess welfare and inequality in environmental contexts. She has also taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Economics and Politics & International Studies at Cambridge.
