Julia Talbert is a Researcher at the Danforth Plant Science Center, where she contributes to advancing sorghum genetics to enhance food security and develop climate change mitigation strategies through carbon sequestration in plants.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL) in December 2024, supported by scholarships such as the Chancellor’s Scholarship and Proud to be First Scholarship. At UMSL, she conducted research in Dr. Bethany Zolman’s lab and collaborated with Dr. Lon Chubiz’s microbiology lab to study soil bacteria impacts on plant development.
- Focus on sorghum yield optimization and carbon emission reduction
- Expertise in plant phenotyping, data collection, and soil microbiome analysis
- Advocates for student engagement and challenging self-imposed limitations
Her award-winning poster at the UMSL Undergraduate Research Symposium (2024) highlights her dedication to scientific communication. She plans to apply for PhD programs in genetics to further her research career.
