Bethany Zolman is an Associate Professor of Biology at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL). Her research focuses on plant genetics, cell biology, and peroxisomal function in Arabidopsis. She holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from Rice University (2002) and a BS in Biology and Chemistry from Valparaiso University (1997).
Her work investigates peroxisomal biogenesis, metabolic pathways (e.g., auxin and jasmonate biosynthesis), and the role of genetic mutations in plant development. She has published extensively on topics like PEX gene mutations, enzyme functions in β-oxidation, and auxin signaling mechanisms. Recent studies include exploring metabolic alterations in enoyl-CoA hydratase mutants and the role of peroxisomes in auxin signaling molecule production.
Zolman’s research highlights interdisciplinary approaches linking molecular genetics, biochemistry, and cellular biology. Her studies have implications for understanding plant stress responses and developmental processes.
Her grants and collaborations include NSF CAREER funding for studies on indole-3-butyric acid action. She maintains an active lab focused on plant cell biology and genetics, contributing to both foundational and applied plant science areas.
