Julia Snyder is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Biology at Syracuse University's College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in College Science Teaching-Biology (2012), M.S. in Science Teaching (2001), and B.S. in Environmental Forest Biology (1999) from SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry.
Her research focuses on discipline-based education and Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL), with emphasis on enhancing student engagement through evidence-based active learning strategies. She investigates how collaborative problem-solving approaches impact critical thinking skills and academic retention, particularly in STEM fields.
Dr. Snyder teaches foundational biology courses including General Biology II, PLTL Leadership Training, and interdisciplinary science topics. Her pedagogical approach emphasizes critical thinking development through hands-on laboratory experiences and collaborative learning frameworks.
