Dr. Julia Smith is a Reader in Accounting & Finance at the University of Strathclyde, part of the Strathclyde Business School. Her career spans roles at the University of St Andrews, University of Oxford, and Cardiff Business School. She specializes in management accounting, venture capital, and small business research, with a focus on SMEs, high-technology investments, and social enterprises. Dr. Smith has been funded by organizations like the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l'Homme and the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).
Her educational background includes a PhD from the University of Abertay and a BCom from the University of Edinburgh. She holds professional certifications such as FCMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) and CGMA (Chartered Global Management Accountant). Dr. Smith has served as a Panel Advisor for REF 2029 and held roles like Director of Research for Accounting & Finance at Strathclyde until 2022.
