Julia Obert is a Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of English at the University of Wyoming. Her research focuses on postcolonial literature, Irish studies, poetry, and critical theory. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Irvine, and has authored two major books: Postcolonial Overtures (2015) and The Making and Unmaking of Colonial Cities (2023). Her work explores themes like colonial urban planning, climate grief, and resistant affects in literature.
Obert teaches courses in postcolonial theory, Irish literature, affect theory, and contemporary literature. She has received prestigious awards including the UW Extraordinary Merit in Research Award (2023) and the Distinguished Faculty Graduate Mentor Award (2018). Her recent projects include studies on climate grief archives and resistant affects in Irish literature.
