Dr. Julia Mortyakova serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Music at Mississippi University for Women's College of Arts & Sciences, a role she has held since 2012. An internationally active pianist, she performs solo recitals and orchestral collaborations across six continents while championing women composers through scholarly and artistic initiatives.
Her educational foundation includes:

- D.M.A. from the University of Miami
Research centers on Jean-Paul Sartre's existentialism applied to music, Cécile Chaminade's legacy, women composers' advocacy, academic leadership, and innovative group piano pedagogy. As Founder and Artistic Director of the decade-long International Annual Music by Women Festival, she integrates scholarly research with performance practice. Her textbook Class Piano (2nd ed.) and streaming albums featuring women composers demonstrate applied scholarship.
