Hui Wu, D.M.A., serves as Adjunct Faculty in Collaborative Keyboard & Piano at California Lutheran University, with concurrent appointments at The Colburn School, Moorpark College, and Junior Chamber Music. A celebrated pianist-composer, she bridges classical traditions and contemporary innovation through multimedia projects, chamber music, and premieres of new works by living composers.
Her academic foundation includes Bachelor's and Master's degrees earned with full scholarship at The Juilliard School, followed by a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music under mentors including Matti Raekallio and Jerome Lowenthal.
Wu's creative practice centers on piano performance duality, exploring intersections between historical repertoire and experimental techniques. She actively commissions and premieres contemporary compositions while developing her own works that integrate visual arts, technology, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, particularly in multimedia formats.
Her compositional trajectory reveals increasing engagement with interdisciplinary forms—from orchestral works like Three Little Pieces for Orchestra (2011) to vocal-technological hybrids such as That Light In My Dream (2017)—demonstrating sustained innovation within contemporary classical frameworks.
Her performance accolades include:
- Kosciuszko Chopin Competition (First Prize)
- Murray Dranoff International Artists Competition (First Prize)
- Beverly Hills National Auditions (First Prize)
- 65th Steinway International Piano Competition (First Prize)
- Ettlingen International Competition (Top Prize)
- Corpus Christi International Competition (Top Prize)
- Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund Award
Wu contributes to music education through frequent adjudication of national competitions and mentorship within her institutional roles, while her artistic leadership manifests in founding ensemble demitasse and trio E'Toile.
These ensembles facilitate experimental collaborations with artists like Nova Jiang and institutions including the Los Angeles CleanTech Incubator, extending her work into technology-driven performance spaces beyond traditional concert halls.
