Julia Kowal is a Professor at the Technical University of Berlin, leading the Fachgebiet (Field) of Electrical Energy Storage Technology within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. She has been affiliated with TU Berlin since March 2014, following prior roles at RWTH Aachen’s Institute for Power Electronics and Electrical Drives (ISEA) and research stays at RISØ National Laboratory (Denmark) and Exide Technologies (Spain). Her work focuses on electrochemical energy storage systems, impedance analysis, and battery technologies for automotive applications.
- Education: Diploma in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (RWTH Aachen, 2005), Dr.-Ing. in Electrical Engineering (RWTH Aachen, 2010)
- Research Interests: Energy storage, battery system design, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, nonlinear device analysis, and automotive electronics.
Her scientific accolades include the Herbert-Kind Prize (ETG/VDE, 2006), Brigitte-Berkenhoff Prize for top graduate (RWTH Aachen, 2002), and Aachen VDE Prizes (2001-2004). She received funding from the Prof. Dr. Koepchen Foundation (RWE). Her team operates at the Institute of Energy and Automation Technology, conducting advanced research on battery systems.
